Artificial grass is ideal for homeowners. You won’t need to worry about the complexities of seeding the lawn or have to spend time mowing the grass. But that doesn’t mean that artificial turf is completely hands-off. Here are some of the maintenance tasks you need to do to keep your lawn looking beautiful.

Cleaning Artificial Turf Stains

Family pets will love artificial turf. It can give them a place to run around, with the grass feeling the same as the real deal. It also allows them a place to do their business. The problem is that some pets might return to the same patch of lawn repeatedly. Often, this behavior is used as a way of marking their territory. The downside is that this can lead to stains on your artificial turf. Thankfully, they will be fairly easy to get rid of. First, you will need to remove any solid waste. Next, you will need to apply a cleaning spray. You can purchase one from an artificial turf store. Or you can make your own. You just need to mix warm water, white vinegar, and soap in equal portions.

Then, it’s time to spray the cleaning solution on the affected blades. You should see an improvement. Though, you might need to grab a sponge and scrub difficult areas yourself. When you have finished, you can use some water to rinse off the grass.

Getting Rid Of Smells

While the stain may no longer be visible, the scent is another matter. Most of the time, the water and vinegar solution should eliminate the smell. If it doesn’t, you might want to try using a cleaning product that contains enzymes. These will break down the harmful bacteria within the grass. You might need to apply this a few times before the smell can be cleansed.

Clearing Lawn Debris

As the winter months close in, you might find your lawn covered with leaves, sticks, and other debris. This should be removed frequently. If not, it can trap moisture and create an environment where mold can grow.

When you are removing this type of debris there are a few things to keep in mind. First, it’s important to make sure that you aren’t using anything with metal tines. This can sometimes tear your lawn. Instead, it’s easier to use a brush with hard bristles or a leaf blower.

Removing Mold from Turf

If you do spot signs of mold beneath the grass blades, you should take action quickly. This will stop the mold from spreading any further. The best approach is to use essential oils. In particular, you should have tea tree oil. You will need to apply a small amount to a sponge, then gently apply it to the area with the mold. As always, it’s best to test this solution in an inconspicuous part of the lawn first. Once you have finished doing this, you can wash the area with a water and vinegar combination. This will remove any residue.

Even if you have pets, it shouldn’t be hard to keep your artificial grass in good condition. The key is taking a few minutes to perform some basic maintenance every few days. As long as you do this, your grass will stay looking beautiful for years to come.
