Sta-Built Construction replaced a backyard lawn in Beaverton, OR with about 664 square feet of Pet & Paver 55 pet turf in February 2026, cut from a single roll. The same job paved the corner beside the existing concrete patio and the side yard in herringbone pavers in Rio with a Charcoal sailor border, and added a short Weston Stone grade wall. The side yard was planned as gravel and switched to pavers at the February 4 job walk.

Before and after

After: pet turf across the backyard, with the paver extension beside the covered concrete pad.

The problem

This is a narrow backyard with a long side yard running along the house to it. At the January 28 site visit the backyard was grass, the side yard was gravel with weeds coming through, and the corner beside the covered concrete pad was patchy grass and dirt next to a storage box. The homeowners wanted pet turf in place of the lawn; the first sketch in the project file labels the grass area “Pet Turf” and notes the crew would take out the grass patch.

The solution

The design sheet lays out 663.82 square feet of turf, about 48 feet long and 14 to 15 feet wide, with plastic edging around it, and a paver extension next to the existing concrete pad with a 12 foot grade wall, 6 to 18 inches high, at its outside corner. A note added to the sheet says the turf needed to be a single 50 by 15 foot roll of pet turf, so the backyard has no seams across it.

The side yard changed at the job walk. The sheet first showed it as gravel. The project manager’s notes from the February 4 walk say the job had just received HOA approval, and that the homeowners wanted to remove the gravel pathway areas and replace about 152 square feet with pavers. The revised sheet crosses out the gravel and marks it “now pavers.”

The materials

The design sheet lists the turf as Pet & Paver 55, the pavers as Holland in Rio with a Charcoal sailor border, and the grade wall as Weston Stone tumbled in Rio, with plastic edging around the turf. In the finished photos the Holland pavers are laid in a herringbone pattern inside the darker Charcoal border, in both the patio corner and the side yard.

How it was built

Materials were scheduled to land the day before the start, and the turf roll arrived by forklift on February 19, 2026. That day a compact track loader dug out the side yard and the backyard. On February 20 the crew covered the excavated backyard and side yard in fabric, and that afternoon the crushed rock base in the patio corner was compacted and set up with screed rails for the pavers.

The turf was rolled out and the pavers were finished on February 23, and the completion photos were taken that afternoon. The job closed out on February 24.

The finished result

Herringbone paver patio in Rio with a Charcoal sailor border in a fenced corner next to pet turf, Beaverton, OR
The patio corner beside the covered pad: herringbone Holland pavers in Rio with a Charcoal sailor border.

The side yard that was planned as gravel, now pavers meeting the turf along the sailor border.

The grass backyard is now one piece of pet turf, and the gravel side yard and the dirt corner by the concrete pad are paved. Where the pavers meet the turf, the Charcoal border is the dividing line.

What a project like this costs

Project investment range: $14,200 to $22,300. This range reflects the scope of this completed project and is not a current quote.

The turf is only part of this price. The paver work around it, the patio extension, the grade wall, and the side yard that moved from gravel to pavers, adds base, cutting, and border work in narrow spaces along the house. The record also carries a change order, which is not part of this range.

Did this project need HOA approval?

Yes. The project manager’s February 4 notes record that the job had just received HOA approval and was ready to schedule.

How long did the installation take?

The crew started February 19, 2026, and the completion photos were taken February 23, with the job closed out February 24.
